0

When HDT’s Space Heater Convective (SHC) heaters are running, the battery pack gets charged by the thermoelectric generator (TEG) on the heater. That’s fine during colder months when the heater runs frequently. During warmer weather, and especially during the summer months, SHC heaters usually sit idle for long periods of time, during which time the battery pack typically loses some charge. With the HDT SHC Battery Charging Rack, the heater battery will stay charged and fully mission capable when temperatures drop and it’s time to use your HDT heater.

Features include:

  • The SHC battery charging rack consists of a multi-shelf rack system with three (3) charging trays
  • Each charging tray/shelf has charging stations for six (6) SHC batteries (NSN 4520-01-493-2796)
  • Batteries can be continuously charged
  • The removal of one battery will not disrupt the charging process

Moving Away From Analog

$

Traditionally, soldiers have relied on analog-based generators to power mobile facilities while deployed in the theater of operations. Using this conventional approach has proven problematic because these generators are only capable of providing their rated amount of electric power. Quite often, this means they must run at peak levels, making them more susceptible to burn outs, more prone to overload, and more likely to shut down when their rated output is exceeded.

Not only are analog-based generators prone to shutdowns, but operating at peak loads around the clock makes them burn exorbitant amounts of fuel, which is ineffective, costly and puts more soldiers in harm’s way. Transporting fuel is complicated and dangerous. Fuel saved translates to more potential lives saved, as less convoys are needed to transfer it to remote operating bases.

These challenges call for a solution of the future but with DRASH that solution is now.
Enter DRASH Intelligent Power Technology® (IPT)– trailers that can easily be reconfigured from one location to the next with a state-of-the-art digital smart system that forms the ultimate networked power micro grid on the battlefield.

DRASH® Intelligent Power Technology® (IPT) enables generators to operate together with greater efficiency, by reducing fuel consumption, overhead, and mobility.

IPT is delivered field ready to the soldier in a rapidly deployable package. By combining DRASH Intelligent Power Technology with the proven reliability of DRASH Utility Support Trailers (UST), soldiers have a highly mobile and battlefield proven platform that can easily be reconfigured from one location to the next to meet all power generation needs.

IPT operates in the toughest terrain and is easily towed behind common military vehicles. These trailers conform to established “safe to transport” criteria by the Military Transport Management Command (MTMC) as suitable for “secondary and unimproved roads” and sealift transportability. Many trailers are also certified for air transport aboard select military aircraft. They have been tested at the Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) in Maryland and the Nevada Automatic Testing Center (NATC) to meet all U.S. Military standards for trailers.
DRASH Intelligent Power Technology provides soldiers with the capabilities they need to prioritize and control multiple generators, supplying only the power necessary to meet a facility’s immediate operational requirements. IPT is outfitted with a simple and user-friendly touch screen that has robust functionality, so that soldiers can easily control operations from their fingertips.

IPT is designed for plug-and-play. Utilizing the latest in connected cabling, it instantly recognizes additional inputs, and is smart enough self-adjust automatically to power demand changes, without interruption.

This technology also features real-time system performance and diagnostics tools, enabling users to monitor fuel levels, engine temperature, oil pressure, run speeds, and many other essential parameters. Many of these parameters can easily be monitored remotely from inside a DRASH Shelter System. With this capability, soldiers can make sure vital systems are operating in the most efficient manner and optimum output levels, while maximizing fuel efficiency. IPT also saves on maintenance costs and even extends the working life of the system.

Benefits of IPT

Analog
  • Designed to run on “island mode,” operating independently of other generators used to power the command center
  • Sized to run peak loads, often providing more power than as is actually required
  • Multiple generators continuously running on partial loads creates unnecessary runtime hours and uses exorbitant amounts of fuel
  • Unexpected peaks in demand can lead to brownouts
  • Simple analog gauge provides limited power output information
  • Unburned fuel can clog the engine block, leading to such maintenance issues as wet-stacking
  • Power output of 18 kW
Intelligent Power Technology
  • Allows personnel to connect multiple generators together in parallel, creating a deployable power grid
  • Power management system with automatic start/stop capabilities only runs the number of generators needed to meet immediate power requirements
  • Load sharing ensures that demand for power will be distributed among generators left running, optimizing fuel usage
  • Load shedding turns off low-priority equipment to prevent brownouts during sudden peaks in demand
  • Onboard digital monitoring system provides detailed power output information and tracks fuel consumption
  • Anti-wet stacking prevents engine from being clogged with unburned fuel
  • Power output of 22 kW
